About the work
As individuals and as people we are mutually dependent on our environment. The place where we grow up and live makes up an intrinsic part of our self, and how and why we influence, mould and use our environment is indicative of our collective and personal ethics and beliefs.
Often the human forces acting out on the environment are only indirectly visible, global warming primarily seen in the graphs of long term temperature readings, or even purposely hidden like the Dutch parks built on repurposed 1970s garbage dumps. Still, if we look closely enough, at things hardly visible or hidden in plain sight by familiarity, we can see us.
My aim is to show the hidden and familiar, the things we overlook or take for granted that tell the story about us and our surroundings. Photography helps to document what is visible, if only so slightly, but also what isn’t and reveals itself more subtly – through triggering memory and imagination.
